Treat of the Week... (Not so much)

So, I've been MIA for about, what 2 months now? Where are the search parties? The dogs with my scent in their noses? Anyone? Anyone?? I guess you haven't missed me. You HAVE however missed all the awesome crap I've bought. Since I haven't posted a Treat of the Week in... well... weeks, I'm just going to throw them all into what I'm calling Summer Treats and Favorites. Maybe from now on we'll just do it like this. That every week thing was getting to be a bit much.

(in no particular order)

NARS Sheer Matte Foundation
While I haven't actually purchased this product yet, I'm using the hell out of the samples I got from Sephora. If I get enough maybe I won't have to spend the $42. Y'all know I'm cheap.

MAC Studio Fix Pressed Powder
I'm not the "make-up" girl like that, but I'm addicted.

O.P.I. Black Shatter
I change my nail polish every few days and while I like to try new colors and different designs, I keep reaching for this one. I keep buying the other colors of shatter/crackle, but for some reason they just don't do it for me like the black does.

Strappy Wedges from Wanted
Got these in black AND blue. I LOVE them and they're soooooo comfortable too. They make my calves look awesome.

Steve Madden Antiqqua Gladiator Sandals
Of course, this was another stalking situation. Perfect timing and a nice 30% off.

A Funky Earlace
Once just a necklace. I couldn't find a reasonably priced one that I thought was cute. (Seriously, where do people get off trying to charge an arm and a leg for some fake jewelry that's going to turn at the first sign of sweat.) Anyway, I went to camp. I'm good at arts & crafts. I made my own. Here's an awesomely sweaty picture of me wearing it. (If you don't know what an earlace is, it's a combo of earrings and a necklace. Duh.)

Printed Lightweight Scarves
These have been a staple of mine all summer. I like throwing them on with cute tank tops and jeans. Mainly they keep me warm on the train to and from work.

2 Finger Rings
Not the old school kind (although I totally want one of those). Cute, feminine and a little unexpected. I like the ones that look like leaves. I don't actually own the one pictured here, but you get the idea.

Carmex Lip Balm
Not a treat. Definitely a staple. Why no one told me about this stuff before is unbelievable and a little rude. I'm only telling you about it because it's the right thing to do. This stuff is the bomb.

Anything from the Shea Moisture Line
You natural girls out there are familiar with these products I'm sure. But just in case you're not, you NEED to work these into your hair care regimen. Oh so coconut-y. My hair has never been happier.

And just because I like you guys, I'll give you a preview of what I'm on the hunt for this fall.
  • A big giant silver skull ring.
  • Some Durango boots. Yes, I said Durango.
  • A funky biker style motorcycle jacket. Like with studs and everything.
  • An obnoxiously huge bag.
  • Dark purple nail polish.
You know if you see ANY of these things, you're supposed to let me know right?

Whore Season

If any of you happen to watch a little YouTube show called DaveAndRemi, then this term is familiar to you. If not, then what the hell are you waiting for? Go. Watch Whore Season. Right now. I'll wait.... seriously. I'll wait.

All caught up? Good. Now, let me explain a little further. Much like the first signs of spring, there are a few things to watch for to signal the beginning of Whore Season.

(Sidenote: All my opinions and "advice" are geared towards people in monogamous relationships. For all you single folks, please feel free to whore yourself out as much as you like.)

Whore Season, (which unofficially begins Memorial Day weekend) is that time of year, when it first starts to get warm and sunny. I'm not talking 80 degrees or hot and humid or anything. I mean, it's JUST warm enough to wear something short during the day or go sans jacket or sweater before it starts to get dark. If you're NOT a whore that is. Now, I can see all the women who like to wear revealing clothing when it gets a little nice out, already fuming talking about "Just cuz I like to look good, doesn't mean I'm a whore!" You're right. I'm not talking about you. Unless of course you ARE a whore, then feel free to be offended. I'm talking about that chick that even though it's barely nice enough to not wear a jacket, she's already got the goods out as if to get a jump on all the rest of the whores. Kind of like preemptive whoring if you will. Her style of dress is always inappropriately risque for the time of day and temperature and while she looks good, she also looks like she on the prowl. Of course the way a women dresses alone does not determine whether she gets the title or not, it's just a lot easier to try and single them out. For example, if you dress like a fireman I expect you to put out fires. I'm just saying.

How do you visually spot a whore you ask? Well, it's not a science, but much like rain, there are a few key things to look for. It's hard to describe, but you know it when you see it. As I pointed out already, their attire can usually give them away. Not always because some whores just don't dress like that. But the ones who don't have a problem laying all her "cards" on the table is probably the same one who relies on her "assets" to get her where she needs to go. Kinda like marajiana being a gateway drug. If you don't mind having your ass out, then you probably don't mind someone in it.

Another hint you're in whore presence is, she's willing to coyly flirt with all the males around until one makes a move. Even if they're all friends. Even if they all seem interested. Even if one of them is your man. Now, there's nothing wrong with flirting. I do it myself every now and then. But in a setting  where there are multiple dudes involved, it's a little less than ideal to put yourself in a situation like this especially when you have no intention on really following up if they all express an interest. Also, you just look crazy being all up in everybody's face. I'm just saying.

As I've explained before, there are different types of whores. Smart whores and dumb whores. The smart ones are fully aware of what they're doing and don't care. They have an agenda and you're either helping it or not. The dumb ones are just oblivious and don't even realize that they're dumb ass decisions are leading to whorish behavior. Either one can get you in whole lot of trouble.

On the one hand, the smart whore who's in control of everything probably has dudes who she's hit up, that are ready to do anything for her. That includes knocking somebody's block off. That somebody could be you. Usually these chicks don't have boyfriends and don't have a problem adding someone else's to their stable for the summer. Friend's or otherwise. On the rare occasion they do, the same conditions apply. Your man, someone else's... everybody is fair game. Her boyfriend of course, is none the wiser and believes he has as an angel sent from heaven. Yeah, not so much.

On the other hand, the dumb whores usually don't realize that they've just been whored and then you've got a clinger. What do you do now? Especially if you've already got somebody. She thought that by giving you some, it'd make you like her more. It never dawned on her that you weren't really in it for the long haul, even though you told her you a. had a woman, b. weren't looking for a relationship c. some other generic excuse. At least the smart whores play their position.

Yeah, I got it all worked out and everything.

I realize all these statements I'm making sound wrong. Real wrong. But that doesn't mean that I'm making them up. We all know that chick. Do we know who she's getting it in with? Probably not, but we know she's looking real whorish. There's nothing wrong with a woman being in charge of her sexuality and who she decides she's going to bed, but when the choices become indiscriminate and/or the encounters all have a means to an end.... well that's just being a whore. Y'all fee me?

Now, I'm just having a little fun with the definition here, but I DO feel like anyone who thinks it perfectly ok to help someone else cheat is wrong. (Cheaters, you're wrong too!) These are the people I tend to put in the whore category. I won't lie, I've done it and it was wrong then too. (By my standard I have to put myself in that category for doing it. But we're talking years ago and I'm older and wiser now.) But I can also understand that you never know who you're going to end up liking, fall in love with, etc. In those rare cases where the overwhelming attraction of another person leads you to want to be with them and you believe they're your soul mate or some crap like that (See: Mark Sanford), then more power to you and good luck. I hope it works out. For the more common "I just wanted to hit that" situation, I think its best to just stay away from the whores

Treat of the Week 5.30.11 and 6.6.11

Once again, I missed a treat of the week. What can I say, I'm a busy woman. So of course to make it up to you I have two. Actually its a bunch of stuff, but I got it a week apart so it counts.

Treat of the Week 5.30.11

Me, the BF and some friends went to the B.A.M. Dance Africa Festival last weekend. I don't know if you guys know this about me but I love buying crap from people on the street. I don't know what it is about that, but it's just fun. We were on the look out for fun ethnic jewelry and t-shirts. And pretty much anything unique looking. Also, who can forget fishcakes from a random vendor. But I digress. I found these earrings I'd been looking for forever (at left) and some other cool stuff. Everything was under $20.

Treat of the Week 6.6.11

I can't let the week go by without paying a visit to one of my favorite stores (or their website). Forever21 always has some pretty nice stuff and you can't beat the price. Especially for that trendy item that you really don't want to pay a lot for. I think everything from Forever21 was under $30. I am DYING to rock these shoes!

Blasted Gold/Gold Crackle Polish: Update

I'm sure you guys remember my previous post about the fancy new gold crackle nail polish I got from Sephora called Blasted Gold. If you don't that means you didn't read it. Shame on you...lol. Anyway, it's another one of those crackle polishes that are all the rage right now. I recently polished my nails with it and while I don't love it as much as I did the O.P.I. Black Shatter, it IS pretty funky. It doesn't "shatter" as much as the black, but the effect is still pretty substantial. Which is weird because they're both made by O.P.I. (The BF and I have come to the conclusion that whatever chemical makes the shatter effect is somehow hampered by the sparkly-ness of the gold color. I don't know if that's a thing, but that's what we've come up with.) Once you put a nice glossy topcoat on it, the shatter effect is definitely more pronounced. Below is my second attempt. I tried it with a sparkly red and I definitely think this time came out better. Please don't ask why I chose THESE random colors, just trying to be fun and different I guess. Let me know what you guys think. Any color suggestions??

Apparently there's party going on and my nails were invited.

Treat of the Week 5.23.11

Ok, I've done it. I went and OD'd on nail polish. I went and got 3 on Thursday because I was going to go IN with the Black Shatter. I'm am LOVING it by the way. Then, one of my friends calls me from Sephora (the one 2 blocks away from me no less) and tells me they have gold AND silver crackle polish. *blank stare*

Leaf earrings!!Woot! I haven't been able to find the perfect pair so far and I've been looking for a looong time. I randomly went into this store on my lunch break and lo and behold, shining at me from near the register as if the light of heaven were upon them, were these funky long leaf earrings. On sale of course and I couldn't resist. AND what kind of shopoholic would I be if I didn't get a fun ring to wear with them? I realize you don't have to wear a ring with earrings, but just go with me on this one.

And finally, the BF and I visited the Flatbush Avenue Festival this weekend. It was meh. But you know how these street festival thingies go. You can always find some fun jewelry or something out of the ordinary that you might not see anywhere else. I got these great handmade wire earrings. I LOVE them!! The designer has some very unique items on her site and I'm thinking about getting some more. Check out www.cindyspieces.com

Treat of the Week 5.16.11

As usual I got a grrreat deal on this stuff! Yes, I DID do the Tony the Tiger "great". So what. I'm corny like that. You love it. Anyway, the summer is coming and I've been dying for a bamboo clutch. Apparently, they're all the rage. Who knew? I got a gift certificate to Shoebuy.com when I purchased a movie ticket online from Fandango (cross discounts FTW!!) and I came across this little beauty. In the end it only cost me $19. And from what I remember about the measurements, it's huuuge! Yayy!

Bamboo54 Pandanus Clutch Wave

That brings me to the cute top I'm thinking about wearing with the aforementioned awesome clutch. Me and the BFF love these off-the-shoulder tops and they come in a bazillion colors. They're lightweight, super cheap, flattering to any shape and come in plus sizes too! I got white, black and beige (for now). These are set to be part of the summer "uniform". So I'd like to apologize in advance for you seeing my shoulder all the time...LOL

When did I become THAT person?

This post was actually written a few months ago, but I never got around to finishing it. I had an experience on my morning commute and I just HAD to write it down.

When did I become THAT person? By that I mean, at what point did I become the person on the train/bus/street that you see and you pretend you don't so you don't have to talk to them??

I've always tried to follow the "rules" of random encounters with people you know. Mind you these are just off the top of my head, but there are unwritten rules that I think most of us have when it comes to situations like those.

1. Don't suck people into unnecessary conversation. You know, the types of exchanges about the weather and such that just fill gaps in time where it's perfectly fine to be quiet but people just can't seem to do it.
2. Don't stop them in odd places (like,  crossing the street, when they're obviously rushing, or stopping and striking up long conversations while they're with other people).
3. Don't interrupt them while a dinner, shows, etc. Places where they'd miss something if they stopped to have a long conversation with you.

Of course there are always going to be exceptions to these rules, but I think it's the most polite way to acknowledge someone while still NOT invading their "space".

I'd go so far as to say that I'm a pleasant enough person that it wouldn't be a HORRIBLE thing to talk to me for a few minutes, but people don't HAVE to because I don't obligate one to do it. I'm usually the hi & bye type myself so there's no pressure. It makes it even more confusing when I see someone who I used to hang out with on a pretty regular basis and they don't speak. Who does that? Can a sista get a wave? A head nod? Blink at me real fast so I know you saw me. Something. I totally get it if we were just passing acquaintances who really didn't speak to each other all that much. Those are the people that I expect not to put too much effort into speaking to me. I'm OK with that, I do it myself on occasion.

With all that said, as I write this, I sit across from someone who I've had this experience with before. And to my non-surprise, I'm having it again. I learned all too quickly that they did not want to be sucked into ANY type of exchange with me and I've respected that. When I see them, which is actually more often then I'd like, I keep it moving. My thing is, do they know that I see them and choose not to speak or do they think that I don't see them and they're deftly avoiding the pain of having to acknowledge my presence and at least smile? If it's the former, you know what? I can accept that. I really can. It happens. What I can't accept is that when this person realized they didn't like me or didn't feel like they wanted to speak to me anymore years ago, they kept doing it, giving me the illusion that we were cool with each other in some capacity. Da hell was THAT about?? They could have totally saved me some confusion and I would have just been like "oh well". (I've had people abruptly stop speaking to me before because of whatever and while it was kinda messed up, at least I have no false ideas about how to proceed when I see them)

Now I'm re-evaluating my whole screening process. Who am I currently "friends" with that at the drop of hat are going to see me and just keep it moving like I'm a stranger on the street? Is it you? Or maybe you? *side eyeing everyone*

Treat of the Week(s) 4.25.11 & 5.9.11

I missed a treat of the week. I know. It's not because I didn't get anything, it's because it just got sooo busy around here that I forgot to post it. Never fear though, this week you get two for one.

These are a leftover treat from all those birthday coupons and certificates I mentioned. I went back and forth between these and another pair, but ultimately these puppies won. I got them from DSW. Yayyy cheap shoes!!

Treat of the Week 4.25.11

Yayyyyy!!! I finally found it!! And it wasn't eleventy million dollars!! If you haven't heard about this already, this it's Black Shatter. (Actually, if you haven't heard about this I assume you live under a rock somewhere.) It's a "crackle" effect nail polish from O.P.I. Apparently when put on top of any polish it gives you a fun grunge-y effect. I've been DYING to try this, but I wasn't haven't any luck finding it on the street. Everywhere I've looked has been sold out. Of course going online is always an option, but due to the high demand, people feel like they can charge whatever crazy price pops into their head. Your girl isn't going for it. I'm too cheap for that. Luckily when I REALLY want something, I'm patient as hell. Got it for $9, including shipping on Amazon. That's what's up.

Treat of the Week 4.18.11

This Treat of the Week is a special birthday edition. That's right. It's your girl's birthday. At least on the 19th it is. In honor of my special day, I'm going to show you some of my gifts instead of things I purchased. By the way, I did this Teyanna Taylor, skinny jean, Converse thing with my outfit for my party featuring all Treats of the Week. It was pretty darn cute. I should have taken pictures, but according to the BF I was pretty far gone...lol. I might start doing Outfits of the Day if I can remember so watch out for those. Sometimes you put something together so crunk you just gotta show it off...lol

Michael Kors White and Gold Chronograph Watch
Love is made from chronographs and watch parts. *swoon*

And I got peas!!! Don't ask, just watch Toy Story 3. (The BF listens like I'm the only one speaking.)
I <3 these peas. Happiness is peas in pod  =D

And I just wanted to thank all my friends and family for making this birthday a happy one. I love you all!! *throws confetti*

Treat of the Week 4.11.11

I know to some of you this next item might not really be considered a treat. It's a treat to me because I usually don't stray too far from the brands I like and I NEVER spend more than a certain amount. With all that being said, I present to you...

Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Polish Strips

Sounds crazy right? I'll bet most of you didn't know that even though I'm not a girly girl like that, I am very particular about my nails. I remember I stopped going to a particular nail technician because, as I put it, "she didn't polish them right". Who does THAT?? Me. Anyway, I've seen these things around and the patterns were kinda funky so I wanted to try them. I did not however, want to spend 10 bucks only to find out I hated them. Since my birthday is coming up and I wanted to try to do something fun with my look, I said what the hell and picked them up. In true cheap ass fashion, I ended up getting a discount. Don't ask. My first impression, awkward to put on. After the second one though, I'm a pro. I LOVE these stupid things. Why did I decide to only do my thumb? Your guess is as good as mine.

Treat of the Week 4.4.11

Don't you love the time of year when your birthday month comes around, and all the rewards programs and store crap that you've been signing up for all year, actually pay off? For me, that time is now. It's April and since my birthday is quickly approaching I've been getting mail and emails with all kinds of coupons, gift cards and rewards junk. Shopaholic's heaven. With discounts and gift cards, etc. everything ended up being less than $10 a piece. Nice!!

I've been wanting an infinity scarf for months, but I could never find one I really liked. Since it was winter, most of them were thick and chunky. While I love that look most of the time, I couldn't help but think ahead to those less freezing days where a sleeker look would be much more appropriate. Finally, I found one. It's in that sapphire-y blue shade that's getting a lot of attention right now. I really do want it to warm up outside, but not before I get to rock this properly.

Now let me just warn you, the chick wearing this scarf on the website is making it look hella cheesy, but you gotta be able to see past these kinds of thing. I mean you gotta REALLY, REALLY look past them...lol
Infinity Scarf

Every girl knows that the more you shop at Victoria's Secret, the more crap they send you. So that means, I've got birthday bucks, reward cards and just general awesomeness in the form of discounts that I'm not missing the opportunity to take advantage of. I've kinda been wanting to see what their make-up is like, but I'm a little wary so I figured I couldn't go wrong with a lip gloss. Also, I found THE perfect tube top. So I got 5. What? I gotta make sure I'm all stocked up. What if something happens to one? I'll have a bunch of back-ups right? Right?? Don't judge me...

Side Note: Why the hell are the pictures of these things so damn cheesy?? I mean, they DO want you to buy this stuff right?

Treat of the Week 3.28.11

By far the cheapest treat I've found. I only paid a penny for this. That's right $.01. Every now and then Wet Seal will have this Buy One Get One for A Penny Deal. I was gonna by some jeans anyway so I picked up this rockin' top while I was at it. Score!

Wet Seal Cowl Neck

Short Linked Leaf Necklace and Caged Pearl Necklace

So HOW cuuuute is this leafy necklace?? Love it!! The caged pearl was just too urban chic to pass up and I couldn't figure out which one I really wanted. Who says you have to choose?? Both were only $11 with free shipping. From the UK...

Treat of the Week 3.21.11

For all you Xbox fans out there. You know who this is. Yes, it's my avatar. Cute isn't she? So's her outfit right? I've been on a mission to re-create this outfit in real life, so you can imagine how excited I was to find this hat for $2.50 at a sample sale. It's not EXACTLY the same, but close enough that I'm just gonna go with it. Plus it's HAUTE! Y'all think this is a game. It's not.

Also, I got this Rolling Stones Tee that reads "ROCKS OFF". I have to admit, I'm not a fan like that, but the tee is awesome. It was also $2.50. I LOVE that price. It reminds me of this t-shirt I had when I was about 13. It said "INXS Kick". I never knew what that meant, but I always loved it. It was only later I found out that INXS was a band and "Kick" was an album. BUT, this was before Google and I felt like a complete fool not knowing anything about the shirt I was wearing. Fortunately, I know exactly what the hell "ROCKS OFF" is. Yeah, it's a song about what you think it is...lol. The shirt I got is actually yellow, but I couldn't find a decent picture.

Treat of the Week 3.14.11

Is there even any need to explain?? Ok, so I'm STILL playing Dragon Age I. That's right. STILL. But once I'm done (and judging by the name of the mission I'm working right now, The Final Fight, I think I'm close to it) Dragon Age II will be sitting right there waiting for me. I've been trying to avoid watching the BF play it because I don't want to be influenced by any of his decisions.  We'll see what happens.

Treat of the Week 3.7.11

Me and the BFF hit up the outlet so needless to say there are A LOT of treats. (Yayyyy!) Some things were things I needed but most were things I just wanted to have cuz they were awesome. So I decided to pick the one thing that I absolutely loved as my Treat of the Week. I am sooo sick about how hot these are!

Treat of the Week 2.28.11

This week I found some fun stuff a couple of different places. They were all pretty inexpensive so I don't feel too bad about picking up more than one thing.

Earrings from Forever21 $3.80
Hot Trendz Earrings $5.00

I love me some fun earrings. Did I NEED 3 new pairs? No. But that's not the point of a "treat" is it?

Last but not least. I just HAD to get these. They've been in my shopping cart at DSW for weeks now and I finally got some coupons and reward points. Wasn't going to get them without a discount. Call me cheap. I don't care. Either way. They're mine! And I already got the inaugural outfit picked out in my head...lol

Treat of the Week 2.21.11

By far, my most exciting purchase of the year (but the year isn't over!). I've been scheming on this bag for about 6 months now. I am forever the "wait for it to go on sale" girl. It refused to go on sale. Finally, I decided I couldn't wait. I got the last one. FINALLY ON SALE. Crisis averted.

Treat of the Week 2.14.11

I caught this one on a crazy sale from Endless.com. Seems like lately I've been getting things just in the nick of time and at awesome prices. This was the last one! Hopefully my shopping luck will hold up throughout the rest of the year, I've got way too much stuff I need to buy. It also comes in black and I do believe I have the perfect shoes.

Sidenote: If you decide to get this bag, PLEASE do some comparison shopping. They're charging way too much for it on the Vieta Pierre website and I got it for less than half the price somewhere else.

Treat of the Week 2.7.11

I'm not even going to explain why I got the old school bamboo earrings. Let's just say, it's still the early 90's in my head. All I need is a big dookie rope chain and I'm good. (Don't worry, that's on my list too...lol) You can find these pretty much everywhere.

The tee is from Alloy. It's totally cute and I LOVE the super long sleeve. (Not to mention it's crazy cheap too.) I've been doing an off the shoulder thing lately that I'm loving and this one is easy to dress up or down.

Sidenote: When I went back to get the link for you guys, it was gone already!! Glad I got mine!

Treat of the Week 1.17.11

I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out what I'm going to do differently this year. Not so much resolutions as "things I'd like to do just cuz I think they'd be cool". It's been difficult because I've accomplished a lot that I hadn't planned on before the year ended.

One of things I came up with is that every week I would buy something for myself that I need/want/been looking at for a month or more. The logic behind this (just go with me on this for a minute) is kinda like the logic behind dieting. You know how when you're on a diet you usually deprive yourself of things you normally eat that you consider bad for you? Then after all the sacrifice and starvation you one day you find yourself headfirst in the fridge with a fistful of cheesecake and flecks of bacon bits in your hair? There are usually long stretches of time where I won't buy ANYTHING for myself and then when I do, I OD. So I'm thinking just like with dieting, moderation is key. Also, it helps to treat yourself so often so you don't go overboard when you finally decide to do whatever it is you're trying to abstain from.

These things can't be random. No impulse purchases and if they are they have to be justified. For example, if I happen to shopping with the Twin and I see something I like, I'm not going to just buy it. It has to either be on the "Master List" (more about that later) or there has to be some REALLY GOOD reason why I need it. It has to "go with" something I already own. None of that "Hey those shoes are cute, but they don't match anything. Excuse to go shopping!!

This leads me to my Treat of the Week. Whenever i find something I've got a great deal on or is really interesting or I just plain decide I LOVE, I feel the need to share it. I'm nice like that :)

I've been doing this every week since the year started and I'm building quite the collection. Ok, it's only been 2 weeks, but still... I'm right on schedule. This week's treat is...

A Juicy Couture Starter Charm Bracelet
Juicy Couture

What? I know I'm grown and I have no business rocking this, but I don't care. I love it. Plus, I have all these fun Juicy charms and no bracelet to wear them with. *blank stare*
I needed a new one and I kept saying I'd get it, but I never did. I have no idea why. Finally I just said screw it. I got a discount too so that helped. (Hooray for discounts!!) Anyway, I've got a whole list of stuff and about 50 more weeks so stay tuned!
